The college football season is starting to wind down. That only means one thing and it means that basketball is around the corner. NCAA Men’s basketball is as competitive now as it ever has been. The 2016-2017 Division I season is looking to be a good one as the top teams are looking like a list of the greatest teams to ever step on the hardwood. It is for certain that the 2017 NCAA tournament will be one that could rank up with some of the best ones. The following is a small look at some of the favorites to win the 2017 NCAA tournament. There will be 68 teams that will go dancing beginning in March but there are only a select few that are true favorites to win it all.
The very first team to mention as a favorite for the 2017 NCAA tournament is the Duke Blue Devils. The Blue Devils come into the season with a heralded freshman class consisting of Harry Giles, Jayson Tatum, and Chase Jeter among others. There is also the returnees of Grayson Allen, Amile Jefferson, and Matt Jones. If the team can stay healthy all around then Duke could certainly be holding another championship trophy come March or April.
The next team to mention as a solid favorite are the Kentucky Wildcats. Head Coach John Calipari brings another highly ranked recruiting class and full slate of talent to the upcoming season. Again, Kentucky will rely on a crop of freshman to take them to the 2017 title. De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, and Edrice Adebayo have showed strong early season form. That strong form will be needed on down the line if the Wildcats are looking to win their first national championship since 2012.
Who cannot forget last year’s dramatic closing to the 2016 national championship game! Kris Jenkins at the top of key and hitting the last second buzzer beater for Villanova to beat North Carolina. Well Jenkins and the Wildcats are back and they are favorites again this year to go all the way. Josh Hart and Jaylen Brunson join Jenkins to lead the spirited attack of Villanova. The Wildcats are certainly the top dog in the Big East Conference and they could be back on the top perch again in the 2017 tournament edition.
With that being said, one cannot count out the North Carolina Tar Heels as one of the favorites to win the 2017 NCAA Men’s Division I basketball tournament. Roy Williams’ Tar Heels come into the 2016-2017 season with pretty much the same cast of characters that took them to the title game last season. Nate Britt, Kennedy Meeks, Joel Berry, and Justin Jackson got a bad taste in their mouths from last year especially after losing like they did to Villanova. UNC will certainly have a tough schedule in the ACC but one can be assured that the Tar Heels will be in the mix again for the NCAA title.
Lastly but not leastly on this list are the Oregon Ducks. The Ducks have emerged into a basketball powerhouse. They have a strong national player of the year candidate in Chris Boucher. Jordan Bell, Tyler Dorsey, and Dylan Ennis will be the supporting cast in search for a national basketball championship. The Oregon Ducks can certainly pull some upsets late in the 2017 tournament and they are a team to look out for.
There are plenty other teams that could be considered favorites to win the 2017 NCAA tournament. Syracuse, Wisconsin, Virginia, and Michigan State are definitely on the list. Regardless, the 2017 NCAA tournament is certainly looking to be another good one for the record books.
